What’s
our deal?
We are a family owned business, who are extra passionate about games and BONK is a card game that we grew up playing, cross all generations. As our family is spread out over the world, we decided to digitalise it so that we can keep playing it together. Now it’s being played between Gotland, Sweden, California, Illinois, Peru and France. Our goal was to make the digital experience as close to the physical experience as possible.
We believe we nailed it.
Where did it begin?
In our family it began with our grand parents, Saga and Bob. Just like us, they loved to play games and BONK became a family favourite, alongside a good old sherry of course. Oh, and yes, Saga is our Queen of BONK. This picture of the OG gamers is taken in Visby in august 1989. Cheers!
But where did it really begin?
We are not entirely sure exactly how it started, but we know it was played quite a lot at a classic spot in Visby, Sweden, called Munken. This is probably why we occasionally stumble upon other BONK-lovers from Gotland.
What we DO know is that BONK has a lot of similarities with another card game called Rummy, and there is especially one version called Continental Rummy, or “May I” that is quite similar to Bonk. You could call it BONKs more polite sibling. I guess that leaves BONK being the rude and obnoxious one.
Where did it ALL begin though?
Card games have been around for quite a while, and some historians have suggested that suits in a deck were meant to represent the four classes of the Medieval society. Another common theory is that the 52 cards represent 52 weeks in a year. The four colors represent the four seasons. The 13 cards in a suit represent the thirteen weeks in each season.
